362L Steam Distillation: Isolation of Caraway Oil (#2)

The essential oil from caraway, which consists primarily of S-carvone, is isolated by steam distillation followed by extraction from the water with dichloromethane. The dichloromethane is removed by rotovap and an infrated spectrum of the resulting oil is obtained.
